Triggered by simply docking an ELAN g!Mobile-equipped iPad 2 in a magnetic Launchport dock, this room comes to life and automatically turns on the Runco LS-HB hi-def projector, club-style pinpoint lights and Xbox 360 with Kinect, brings up the house lights, starts a hidden fog machine and completely preps the room for an amazing movie night, dance party or gaming session. With an entire wall occupied by a 151-inch Da-Lite Cinema Contour Screen and motion-based control through the Kinect device, the room presents an augmented reality environment that proves home entertainment is no longer a strictly passive experience.

In conjunction with Runco, the enormous screen was made possible using a precision optical dual-mirror rear projection system, so the projector isn’t located inside the room, but instead in a room adjacent to it.

That was important to Creative TSI President John Lattion, who said “You can’t achieve this kind of functionality with a projector in the usual location in back of the room, as the players would obscure the projector’s output by standing/jumping in the play area, and the fog machine would obscure projection output as well. Perhaps even more beneficial for the homeowners, the room is completely void of any equipment that can be seen!  All you can see is the iPad/Launchport and the screen. Everything else is recessed or hidden.”

To make the most of the 2012 Street of Dreams at Willow Creek at Bearspaw home design event, Creative TSI really did get creative, designing this truly amazing augmented reality room that combines technologies from ELAN Home Systems, Runco and Microsoft. The 6-week home event features four of the area’s leading homebuilders, who each teamed up with their own subcontractors to make their home’s landscaping, interior design and cutting-edge technology stand out from the rest.

“No one else in the world has seen a system like this before,” said Lattion. “The ELAN g! System is so powerful and easy to use that it has a lot of wow-factor all by itself, but we took it a step further by integrating the new Launchpad in-wall iPad 2 dock. With it we are able to trigger pre-set scenes in the ELAN g! System in several rooms of the house by simply docking the iPad 2 on the wall. It’s super easy because it’s magnetic and has inductive charging, so there’s no cables to worry about. This way the homeowner can simply walk into any room, dock the iPad 2 on the wall, and everything—the lights, TV, sound system, game console, heat—turns on to the perfect preset conditions.

“We want to show everyone how far home technology has come, and how fun and easy home entertainment and control can be, and that’s why we created this room, which we’ve come to call the ‘Holodeck’,” Lattion said. “Our clients love the ELAN g! Crestron today announced the appointment of Jonathan Garcia as its Technical Director in Canada. Garcia joins Crestron from Westbury National Show Systems where he held the position of Systems Engineer. With more than 14 years experience in AV system design, layout and deployment, Garcia will lead the True Blue support in this key region.

Today Crestron officially launched its new Express 48 repair program, which provides a 48-hour expedited repair service option to dealers. For a pre-determined fixed rate, Express 48 provides an added layer of support for dealers that may require expedited repairs during time-sensitive projects. Soft-launched in December, 2011, Express 48 applies to warranty and non-warranty Crestron repairs.

Crestron today announced a call for entries for its eighth annual Integration Awards. The Integration Awards honor the most innovative and creative residential installations featuring Crestron solutions.

“I’m thrilled to announce that Crestron will be hosting the eighth annual Integration Awards at CEDIA 2012. We encourage innovative and creative applications of our technology, and Crestron’s unlimited flexibility allows for some truly amazing and unique systems to be built,” said Sean Goldstein, Crestron VP of Marketing. “The Integration Awards spotlight those who take Crestron to the next level, as well as provide bragging rights for the winners.”

“Due to the overwhelming popularity of the Crestron DigitalMedia™ solution, we’ll be awarding multiple winners in the Most Distinctive DigitalMedia Home category,” added Goldstein. DigitalMedia enables homeowners to enjoy the best HD video and sound and access all available content from any room or multiple rooms at the same time. Homeowners also appreciate the ability to channel surf without any delays.

Additionally, the Best iPad® Home Control category will return to the 2012 Integration Awards. With the popularity and increased use of the iPad for home control, Crestron will continue to select three winners (Gold, Silver and Bronze) in the category.

Crestron dealers can submit projects for nomination in thirteen creative categories including Biggest, Baddest Home, Home Sweet Home Theater, and Ultimate Connected Home. Contest finalists will be notified by August 1, 2012. Winners will be announced and recognized at CEDIA 2012, held September 6-8, 2012 in Indianapolis, IN.

Eligible projects must have been completed between July 2011 and June 2012. Entries must be received by June 29, 2012.

The second annual CE Pro Quest for Quality Awards honored manufacturers and distributors for excellence in customer service. Crestron proudly accepted Platinum first place honors in both categories.

Crestron today announced the opening of its newest facility, a state-of-the-art warehouse and distribution center in Orangeburg, NY. Located just a few miles from its world headquarters in Rockleigh, NJ, the 100,000 square foot facility doubles the size of the previous warehouse space in Carlstadt, NJ. Ground-breaking on the newly constructed building began in August, 2011.

“Crestron’s continued growth has made it necessary to build a larger warehouse to meet the increasing supply demands of our customers,” said Randy Klein, Crestron Executive Vice President. “The new facility enables us to increase inventory levels so orders can be fulfilled much quicker and our dealers can complete their jobs quicker. This is another example of how we continue to reinvest back into the company to exceed our customers’ delivery expectations.”

Featuring three wire-guided turret truck lifts and a new warehouse management software system, the new logistics hub is located just six miles from the Rockleigh manufacturing facilities. SAP Warehouse Management software will help optimize warehouse activities such as inbound and outbound processing, facility management, storage, and physical inventory counts.

As of April 3rd, all customer pickups will move from Carlstadt to Orangeburg.

This is the third new facility Crestron has opened in the last half year. The newest Crestron Experience Center in Cypress, CA, opened last month and the Crestron Design Showroom at the NYC D&D Building opened in October 2011.

In addition to 80 worldwide sales & support offices, Crestron now owns six major facilities on or around its corporate headquarters campus, including corporate offices, the Crestron Research Center and two manufacturing plants.
