The UFO can be submerged in sanitizing liquid without being affected.”

The intuitive user interface features customizable menus with full-color icons, making it easy to select room location, music or video source, choose a radio station, TV channel, or media title, and access lighting controls and other functions. The ruggedized construction of the remote provides an added level or protection against life’s elements.

With the tap of a finger, UFO provides extended wireless coverage and two-way feedback from a bright 2.8″ active-matrix color LCD display. UFO works like an IR remote with instant response, with all the benefits of 2-way RF. Using Crestron 2.4 GHz RF wireless technology allows extended coverage performance up to 200 feet indoors, and 1000 feet outdoors using the optional Extended Range RF Wireless Gateway.

Additionally, UFO extends battery life up to one week by slipping into a virtual sleep mode within seconds when idle. Instant-Waking® revives UFO instantly with the press of any button, and button commands can be sent immediately without the connection delays common with Wi-Fi® remotes. The included indoor docking station provides a convenient means for charging the remote’s internal battery.

An optional outdoor docking station provides a weatherproof charging solution and an ideal wall mount dock for both outdoor and indoor applications.

Home Automation, Inc. (HAI), leading manufacturer of integrated security and home automation products since 1985, announced stand-alone integration with an HAI MicroControl and Kwikset ZigBee wireless door locks.

HAI’s MicroControl, (part number 81A00-2WHZB), is a standalone remote control for ZigBee wireless door locks.  This functionality means that a home or business owner, without any other automation equipment, can wirelessly lock and unlock individual doors with a simple button push.  They can also use the same MicroControl to coordinate all of their wireless energy management devices, including thermostats and load control modules for compressors, generators, chillers, water heaters, pumps, fountains, and more.  The MicroControl provides homeowners or building managers a status of each lock and the ability to lock or unlock specific door locks.
In addition to stand-alone functionality, the MicroControl and ZigBee wireless door locks can be fully integrated into an HAI Omni or Lumina home control system means increased access control with cutting-edge electronic locks from various manufacturers.  Users gain the ability to lock and unlock up to 16 doors from HAI Ethernet Touchscreens, keyfobs, and remotely via mobile Apple/Android devices.  The HAI controller can lock and unlock the locks, in addition to monitoring the state of the locks.  HAI systems may even be configured to automatically set lighting, music, and temperature based on the locked/unlocked status of the door.
The ZigBee integration has been specifically verified with the Black & Decker Kwikset SmartCode locks, but it should work with other locks that support the standard ZigBee Home Automation profile lock cluster.

HAI ZigBee lock integrations are available now.  The door lock integrations are compatible with all Ethernet-enabled Omni and Lumina controllers, including Omni Pro II, Omni IIe, Lumina Pro, and Lumina, utilizing firmware version 3.10 or later.  The ZigBee integrations require usage of HAI’s MicroControl, HAI part number 81A00-2WHZB, or the HAI Zigbee Interface Module, HAI Part Number, 81A00-3ZB, running firmware 14.08 or later.
“HAI has lots of customers using the MicroControl as a stand-alone energy management system,” explained Jay McLellan, HAI President & CEO.  “The ability to use the same infrastructure to integrate security in the form of wireless door locks is an affordable option for many retrofit situations or new construction.”

Revolutionary DM® Product Line is the New Digital Standard

Crestron, the digital media pioneer, announced today the installation of its 50,000th DigitalMedia™ switcher. The revolutionary DM® solution is the standard in commercial and residential digital media applications. Leading AV solutions provider, Whitlock installed the milestone switcher at a U.S. Army base in Newport News, VA.

DigitalMedia is the groundbreaking technology that flawlessly manages and distributes all digital content. The market leader for more than seven years, DM was the first solution to respond to the impending analog sunset, ensuring that high-definition audio, video and computer signals go where they’re intended, without compromising quality or impact. In a few short years, DM has become the industry standard with 50,000 switchers installed and tens of thousands of completed installations and customers to date. The success of DigitalMedia wouldn’t have been possible without great partners like Whitlock.

“It’s a proud day in the history of Crestron,” said Randy Klein, Crestron Executive Vice President. “Reaching the 50,000th installation milestone further validates DigitalMedia as the industry standard. It also recognizes our dedication to engineering excellence and innovation.”

The U.S. Army needed a digital solution for their training facilities across the country and called on trusted dealer, Whitlock to provide the solution. DM was selected because it is the only proven digital solution that accepts both analog and digital signals and meets the stringent security and reliability requirements of the U.S. Army. Whitlock’s partnership with Crestron and extensive knowledge of the DigitalMedia line has been instrumental in the integrator’s growth and success. Whitlock has been able to put more than 130 employees through certified technical training programs, and has significantly increased its technical awareness and expertise with regards to digital systems integration.

“Our partnership with Crestron was fundamental in creating the new digital standard for the U.S. Army,” said Doug Hall, Whitlock CEO. “DigitalMedia provides the digital infrastructure for the U.S. Army training command, ensuring that our military is receiving the best possible training using the latest technology.”

“As with any installation of this scale, a multitude of components were necessary to create a seamless solution,” added Landon Lovett, Crestron Director of Federal Government Markets. “DigitalMedia is the only complete end-to-end solution that features a full line of matrix switchers, transmitters and wall plates, HD-SDI and 3G-SDI, DSP input cards, and receivers with built-in power amplifiers. The native solution means that you don’t have to worry about mixing and matching other components. Our products work together seamlessly.”

Whitlock has worked closely with Crestron for more than twenty years. They were one of the first integrators to adopt and champion the DM® product line, which addresses the challenges of the digital AV era. Whitlock installs DM in military and government facilities, as well as corporate and education facilities. The integrator has truly embraced and invested in DM, implementing hundreds of DigitalMedia systems for their clients. It is only fitting that the DM supporter marks the success of DigitalMedia with the installation of the 50,000th switcher.

The wildly popular DigitalMedia solution has been embraced by the industry and has secured a permanent place in commercial and residential markets. Crestron and Whitlock are proud of the digital experience and credibility they bring to the AV industry. Both look forward to continuing their partnership and increasing awareness of the new digital standard.

HAI Snap-Link Mobile for iPhone and iPad Now Feature Customizable Remote Control for Audio/Video Equipment

March 27, 2012
Be Sociable, Share!

HAI (Home Automation, Inc.), leading manufacturer of integrated automation and security products since 1985, announced that the iTunes store now features version 1.07 of Snap-Link Mobile that includes the ability to remotely control audio/video equipment when used in conjunction with an HAI Home Theater Extender (HTX2).
The HTX2 (HAI part number 86A00-2) allows for audio/video control using iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch (iOS devices) integrated with HAI’s Snap-Link Mobile application and an HAI home control system.  Additionally, HAI’s free HTX2 Mobile Designer software allows for the creation and/or customization of GUI (Graphical User Interface) “remote control” pages that are used for controlling A/V equipment using an iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch.
Interface designs for iOS devices can be modified using HAI’s HTX2 Mobile Designer software.  HAI provides generic templates that can be customized for TV’s, Blu-Ray/DVD players, A/V receivers, satellite/cable boxes, tuners, projectors, CD changers, and more.  Advanced users can modify the provided templates, design their own templates, or purchase templates from third-parties.  Users can even create macro buttons like “Play Movie” to activate a chain of commands, so that all of the applicable audio/video devices are set accordingly with the touch of one button.  Audio/video devices can also be separated by room using PC Access so that when the homeowner selects the Living Room, they only gain access to the AV devices within that room.
The iOS device sends the command to the HTX2, which controls the A/V equipment using serial ports, IR ports, IP (TCP/UDP) and SPDT relays.  Over 300,000 IR codes are built-in, and additional codes may be added using the IR Learner.
HAI’s HTX2 Mobile Designer software, Snap-Link Mobile for iPhone/iPad, and the HTX2 are now available.  Existing users of Snap-Link Mobile for iPhone/iPad can upgrade their application for free to gain access to the audio/video remote control functionality.

“Adding remote control for AV equipment into our app is very exciting for HAI and our installing dealers” explains Jay McLellan, HAI President and CEO.  “Homeowners can now change the channel on the TV, adjust the temperature of the thermostat, lock the front door, or view a surveillance camera all from one hand-held application.”
The HAI HTX2 may also be used with OmniTouch 5.7e Touchscreens.  Customized A/V interfaces for HAI Touchscreens are developed using HAI’s Automation Studio, which is also used to configure the functionality of the HTX2.

HAI Adds VoIPAlarm as Newest Connectivity Partner

March 27, 2012
Be Sociable, Share!

Home Automation, Inc. (HAI), leading manufacturer of integrated security and home automation products since 1985, announced a Connectivity Partnership with NextAlarm and their VoIPAlarm product.

The VoIPAlarm solution allows the customer’s HAI home control system to call and report alarm activity to a central station over IP for a low monthly service fee.  This solution is ideal for customers that don’t have landline service or for customers that have an existing VoIP telephone service which doesn’t properly transmit alarm signals to the central station.

To install, simply connect the customer’s HAI alarm panels RJ11/31X connection to the phone port on the VoIPAlarm adapter and the Ethernet connection to the customer’s router. Then, let VoIPAlarm know where the signal should be sent. The options include: use the existing number in the panel, provide a new phone number and account ID, or choose from one of VoIPAlarm’s partner stations to send the signal completely in IP.  Send a few test signals and the customer has now been transitioned to IP and signals are sent securely to the central station over IP.  Additionally, the customer and/or dealer can receive additional alarm notifications via SMS/Text, E-mail, and IVR (Interactive Voice Response).  All of this capability is available with a low cost adapter and a low monthly service fee.
“We have many customers using HAI systems, and we’ve always felt that our products are a great fit for each other,” stated Alex Elliot, CEO, NextAlarm.  “Both product lines focus on cutting edge, high tech applications for affordable equipment, and on getting the most out of your security or home automation system.”
“HAI is excited to give our customers this unique option,” explained Scott Dudoussat, HAI Director of Technical Services.  “As Customers are moving to IP voice services or dropping their analog phone line completely, HAI dealers need the ability to keep their customers alarm systems connected.”

HAI products are available through a worldwide network of Distributors and installing Dealers in over 80 countries.  For more information on HAI, please visit www.homeauto.com or email [email protected]

SPORTS TRAINING FACILITY OFFERS PERSONALIZED SESSIONS WITH SIMPLE MULTI-ZONE AUDIO BY ELAN® g!

March 15, 2012
Be Sociable, Share!

The owner of Trois Rivieres Training can also monitor the facility’s security system and surveillance cameras from the road with the g!Mobile iPhone app.

CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, March 15, 2012 — At the Trois Rivieres Training indoor sports facility in St. Cloud, Minnesota, trainees can get a truly personalized training experience, right down to practicing with their own music and videos to help keep them motivated.  With an ELAN® g! control system that pulls together three audio zones, several flat screen TVs, multiple surveillance cameras and the building’s security system, the owner has complete control over the operation of his business, even when he’s on the road.

According to the owner of Trois Rivieres, “I knew the ELAN g! system would be a great fit for the training facility because it allows my guests to listen to their own music. If you’ve done a training regimen before, you know the right music can help motivate you to work harder.

“I spend more time on the road that I do at Trois Rivieres, so monitoring the security system and surveillance cameras from on my iPhone is a huge deal to me, and it’s very easy to do with the g!Mobile app.  Another great thing is that the system is easy to expand, such as adding lighting controls, which I’m planning to do soon.”

Thanks to the custom installation team at Cybermation, Inc., trainees at the facility can dock their iPods and listen to their own musicwhile they train, and they can even bring their own DVDs to watch training videos on the TVs.  To help keep the parents and visitors involved, Cybermation installed a 50-inch flat screen TV in the lobby that can display the surveillance cameras located throughout the training areas.

“When you think about it, there are so many types of businesses that can benefit fromhaving all of their systems tied together in one easy-to-use interface,” said Cybermation President Tom Ardolf. “It saves time and frustration, lets the business owners look in on things when they are away from the building, and the owners can also recoup some of the cost through energy savings with automated heating and lighting schedules.

“The ELAN system is perfect because it’s so intuitive and easy to use, especially for systems where patrons or consumers will interact with it directly, such as docking an iPod.  The trainees at Trois Rivieres Training didn’t need to be taught how to use the system, they just plugged in their iPods and started playing their own music right away.”

The ELAN g! system at Trois Rivieres sends audio to three distinct zones—one in the lobby, one in the larger athletic training room, and one in the second floor office/cardio workout room.

“Everyone that trains here loves being able to just dock their iPods and go, and they think it’s as cool as I did when I put a previous ELAN system in my home in 2007.  It’s amazing that the g! system lets me check the surveillance cameras on my iPhone even when I’m away from the building, and it really helps give me peace of mind.  We even keep the parents in on the action with a 50-inch TV in the lobby that displays the cameras feeds from the training areas.”

The facility includes a small-area synthetic ice hockey rink with full boards, includingglass and netting for protection, a full size tennis court, an area for dryland training and a weight lifting area.  Trainees young and old can sign up for 1-on-1 training, small group sessions, 3 vs. 3 hockey leagues, and anyone can rent the hockey rink or tennis court for personal use.

Available starting at $2,000 for a single-room, four sub-system control solution, theELAN g! Entertainment and Control System can be expanded quickly and cost-effectively to enable whole-home control of every system.  ELAN g! provides users with the most uniform and intuitive icon-based control from their favorite devices, including TVs, touch screens, touchpads, PCs, iPhones, and iPads. And the system’s IP backbone makes it just as easy to control the system from across the room—or across the globe.

The ELAN g! system has been awarded a 2011 Residential Systems Magazine RESI Award, a 2011 Custom Retailer Magazine EXCITE! Award, a 2011 CE Pro Magazine BEST Award, a Platinum Level 2011 CEA Mark of Excellence Award by the Consumer Electronics Association and a 2011 Gold Level Electronic House Magazine Product of the Year Award.

CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, March 13, 2012 — Calgary, Alberta-based modular homebuilder Karoleena Homes designs, engineers and builds each and every home to the highest standards of craftsmanship, design aesthetic and eco-friendly operation.  Because their clients are increasingly requesting home control and entertainment systems that can be accessed and monitored remotely, the company is now recommending the ELAN® g! Entertainment and Control System to every new buyer.  And they’ve put their money where their mouth is by installing complete ELAN g! systems in both of their brand new show homes, which made appearances at two home shows in February. One of the new show homes will also be on display at the EdmontonHome & Garden Show from March 22-25.

Partnering with the custom installation experts at Avalanche Electric, Karoleena Homes has constructed a base ELAN g! system to offer every new client, which can then be expanded on or augmented to meet the exact needs of the homebuyer.  The base package includes everything needed to provide simple, consolidated control of a multi-zone audio system, security system, 10 automated lighting loads and one integrated HVAC zone.  The package includes one in-wall touch panel and an iPhone/iPad app for controlling the system, with the ability to add more touch panels as desired.

According to Karoleena Homes President Kris Goodjohn, “A lot of our clients are building second homes and vacation homes, and most of them want to be able to check in when they aren’t there.  The ELAN g! system has finally given us a tool that provides remote access plus all the bells and whistles such as the multi-zone audio system and the lighting control.  One of the biggest concerns we had when looking at control systems was that a lot of our clientele are older, so weneeded to find the easiest-to-use solution.

“We’ve committed to using the ELAN g! system in all of our future homes because it is so easy and because it can start as a small, one room solution and expand to control everything from motorized shades to irrigation and surveillance cameras.  Our friends at Avalanche Electric say it’s the best because it’s easy to install, doesn’t require a lot of maintenance, they can access and make fixes or changes remotely, and it’s capable of expanding to do just about anything.”

Kent Mountenay, owner of Avalanche Electric, said, “Our partnership with Karoleena Homes pairs a custom homebuilder with a custom electrical contractor and systems integration team, so the results are fantastic.  I believe more and more homebuyers are going to want home automation packages right from the start, so we are getting ahead of the game in a very good way.  The ELAN system is my top choice for home automation for several reasons, one of which is the consistent updates, improvements and additions to what the system can do and the third-party components it supports.

“Using the ELAN g! system is as easy as it gets, and it’s just the right mix of price, capability and expandability, so it makes a good base system that can grow to do just about anything the homeowner can think of. Especially for second homes, what people really want is something that is easy to use.  No one wants their home to be confusing or difficult to use or look after when they’re away.”

Integrating the ELAN g! system into Karoleena’s modular homes is a natural next step in the evolution of modern home building.  Since the company began building modular homes in 2005, they have become the preeminent source for affordable, eco-friendly, technologically advanced modular homes.  Employing the best designers, architects, engineers and carpenters, they deliver custom homes in less than half the time required to build a home in the traditional style.  Because the company builds its homes in a climate controlled indoor facility, they are not subject to cost overruns or delays due to weather or outside circumstances.

“We have streamlined the building process like Henry Ford did for the automobile industry,” Goodjohn said. “Because we eliminate the unknowns associated with home building, we are able to use the best materials and run a very eco-friendly operation.  In fact, our building process generates only five percent of the waste a traditionally built house would create.

“With the ELAN g! system our clients can lessen their environmental impact even more through lighting and heating schedules, which that they can adjust as they see fit and monitor when they are away from their new dream home.  Most of our clients have iPhones and iPads and love the simplicity modern technology can offer, making the ELAN g! system a natural extension of their digital lives. I have a feeling that once they see how easy and useful home control can be with ELAN g!, a lot of our clients will expand on the base package.”

Karoleena homes build modular homes for about the same price as traditional homes, and they are guaranteed by the Alberta New Home Warranty Program.  Because they often require shipment across thousands of miles and are hoisted up to 30 feet in the air for placement, Karoleena’s modular homes must be built to a more rigorous standard than traditional homes, so they are reinforced by approximately 30percent more material, which also provides improved insulation.

The ELAN g! Control System provides users with the most uniform and intuitive icon-based control from their favorite devices including TVs, touchscreens, touchpads, PCs, iPhones and iPads. The standardized interface works across platforms, so that the trendy g!Mobile app users love on the iPhone appears and works similarly on ELAN touchscreens, valets and handheld remotes as well as users’ televisions and mobile devices. And the system’s IP backbone makes it just as easy to control the system from across the room – or across the globe.

Individual “apps” for each subsystem allow the user to control security, climate, lighting, media, irrigation, pool/spa, messaging, video and photos with the flick of a finger. Access is fast and secure through any ELAN home interface or globally with mobile Internet enabled devices like the iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, Netbooks and PC Tablets. Since the intuitive interface empowers users with personalized scheduling and detailed history views, high consumption subsystems like lighting and climate can be closely monitored and managed for a greener lifestyle – and substantial energy savings.
