Core Brands® BlueBOLT® SP-1000 SmartPlug Provides Low-Cost Solution for Remote Power Control and Energy Management

Affordable Device Enables Delivery of BlueBOLT Functionality Throughout an Entire Space to Reduce Energy Consumption and Service Calls

PETALUMA, Calif. — Dec. 19, 2013 — After the successful introduction of the BlueBOLT® Mobile site, Core Brands® today announced that the award-winning SP-1000 SmartPlug is delivering BlueBOLT control to any outlet in the building. Designed to provide low-cost remote power control and energy management capabilities, the device allows integrators to cost-effectively distribute BlueBOLT functionality throughout residential and commercial spaces to lower energy consumption and reduce service calls.

Offering a thin profile of 1.25 inches, the SP-1000 SmartPlug packs energy monitoring, load control and scheduled conservation in a compact form factor that plugs directly into any standard 120V, 15A outlet. Utilizing ZigBee® wireless communications, the SP-1000 can be monitored, controlled, programmed and remotely accessed via BlueBOLT’s energy management and control platform via the wired BB-ZB1 gateway.

For integrators, BlueBOLT reduces service calls through remote control of the SP-1000’s two AC outlets from any Internet-enabled device and by automatically rebooting network equipment. In addition, the platform provides real-time and historical power-related data, including energy consumption in kWh and dollars. This data allows installers to categorize and track their clients’ energy usage in residential and commercial settings, and schedule conservation commands to power-down equipment during planned downtime, thereby eliminating wasted power and lowering utility bills.

“The SP-1000 expands our SmartPlug offering with a low-cost option that allows installers to more easily deliver the benefits of the BlueBOLT platform throughout an entire residential or commercial space,” said John Benz, director of power and accessories, Core Brands. “With the SP-1000, AC outlets can be controlled and monitored anytime, from anywhere, using a mobile phone, tablet or computer. All that’s needed is one BB-ZB1 gateway, which can support up to 15 SP-1000 units.”

The SP-1000 is available at an MSRP of $49.95. The BB-ZB1 gateway is available at an MSRP of $99.95.

AWARD-WINNING HOMEBUILDERS USE ELAN g! TO CAPITALIZE ON HOUSING MARKET RECOVERY

Forward-thinking homebuilders are making the ELAN g! Entertainment and Control System the foundation of new home sales.

DENVER, COLORADO – September 4, 2013 — Consumer confidence is high, new home sales surged 8.3 percent in May and new home prices have climbed month over month in 2013, so it’s clear the housing market is recovering. Builders need to find ways to stand out and capitalize on this market growth, and one way to do so is to offer things that others don’t even consider, like total home control. Award-winning builders Jim Blansfield of Danbury, Connecticut-based Blansfield Builders, Inc. and Josh Wynne of Sarasota, Florida-based Josh Wynne Construction have both partnered with local integrators and found huge success using the ELAN® g! Entertainment and Control Systems to help close new home sales.

“I’m a believer in ‘the new normal’ way of thinking,” Blansfield said, “and with the affordable and expandable control solutions made possible by ELAN g!, home control is the new normal! In the past two years, I’ve closed several new homes by demoing the g! system for prospective clients. I have a g! system in my own home, so I’m the first person to say how easy it is to use, and my clients are consistently impressed that I include technology in my designs and recommendations, because many other builders minimize the importance of home technologies.”

Since partnering with the Danbury integration firm Structured Home Solutions, Blansfield has built 13 homes that include ELAN g! systems of varying size and complexity. Whether the new buyers were looking for enhanced security, HVAC scheduling, lighting, irrigation and pool controls, or super simple whole-home audio and video systems, every client received a custom solution tailored to their specific needs. From a business perspective, Blansfield knows that his knowledge, appreciation and passion for technology place him in an entirely different category from other builders.

“Any builders who resist change and aren’t prepared to talk to clients about integrated home control solutions will hurt themselves in the long run,” he said. “I even push remodel clients to install the ELAN g! system because it adds so much value to the home, and brings it into the 21st century more so than new countertops or an updated bathroom could ever do.”

Josh Wynne has had similar success integrating advanced home technologies with the ELAN g! system, and has teamed up with Sarasota integrator SmartHouse Integration to offer his new clients the best that modern home technology has to offer. Wynne is building four new LEED Platinum certified homes in 2013, each featuring the ELAN g! system to control core subsystems such as AV, HVAC, security, lighting, window shades, irrigation, garage doors, pool controls and surveillance cameras.

According to Wynne, “I’ve strived to make a basic home automation package standard for every new home I build.  When smartphones came on the market a lot more people started to see how easily these advanced systems could integrate into their homes and help them live more simply and comfortably, and I’ve used that culture movement to benefit my business. Most of my projects are relatively big budget, around the $1 million mark, but there’s absolutely no reason that a $300,000 home shouldn’t include a multi-room audio system, an integrated HVAC or lighting system that saves money and energy, or a security and surveillance system that can be accessed remotely from any smartphone or tablet.

Both builders agree that determining the buyers’ interests is key to selling advanced home control solutions, whether they love music and want multi-room audio or desire heightened peace of mind and would benefit from a mobile-accessible security and surveillance system.  From there it’s a small leap to demo the entire ELAN g! system and highlight all the trappings that easy-to-use home control offers. Another thing they agree on is the need to use a reliable, qualified integrator to make the homeowner’s technological dreams a practical reality.  That’s why they’ve each partnered with a top integration firm in their respective regions, and worked together to craft custom solutions that make every home the perfect living environment for the owners.

BlueBOLT® Introduces New Network Management Feature Upgrade to Existing Products

Free and Automatic Upgrade Available in Q4 for Panamax® MD2-ZB and BB-ZB1 Product Family

PETALUMA, Calif. — Aug. 20, 2013 — BlueBOLT® today announced that the company has introduced a network management feature to its cloud-based power and energy management platform. The new feature allows users to query (ping) any device with an IP address on a network from a BlueBOLT-enabled component with a BlueBOLT-CV1 card. In the event of a failed ping response, BlueBOLT can send email notifications, reboot an outlet, reboot a series of outlets in sequence, or any combination of the above. A boon for integrators, the network management feature facilitates a self-healing network, which will drastically reduce service calls, limit truck rolls, and ultimately provide a better experience for the end user.

Initially designed to facilitate the control of power and energy usage and remotely reboot problem components in installed electronics systems, the company’s hardware and software technology provides an intuitive, plug-and-play Web interface where users can control AC outlets to schedule, monitor, and manage their energy consumption easily. With this new feature, BlueBOLT expands from power and energy management to network management — a key infrastructure element — for a full systems management platform.

“Because BlueBOLT is designed to be the simplest Web-based power management solution available, network management was the next logical step,” said John Benz, director of power and accessories, Core Brands®. “With the unique ability to ping devices directly from the cloud, integrators, contractors, installers, and technicians can diagnose and repair networks remotely, resulting in fewer vehicles on the street and a greater power and cost-savings for the end user. Combined with BlueBOLT’s auto-reboot feature to ensure a consistent connection to the Internet, BlueBOLT provides a tremendous amount of value to both the integrator and their clients by ensuring systems perform their best.”

The network management feature can be utilized in commercial or residential applications where networked equipment could potentially lock up. By leveraging the cloud-based ping, problematic networked equipment can be automatically rebooted from anywhere in the world, eliminating potential service calls and reducing system downtime.

Available now at no additional charge, the network management feature can be found on the BlueBOLT platform’s “Location Details” screen and will work with preinstalled Panamax® or Furman® products in the field with a BlueBOLT-CV1 card installed (firmware update required). In addition, the feature will be available in Q4 for use with the Panamax® MD2-ZB and BB-ZB1 product family.

Arecont Vision Ships Industry First 40-Megapixel 180 degree DayNight Panoramic Camera

Arecont Vision Ships Industry’s First 40-Megapixel 180° Day/Night Panoramic Camera

All-in-One SurroundVideo® Camera Replaces Many Conventional Cameras

Los Angeles, CA (August 6, 2013) – Arecont Vision, the industry leader in IP megapixel camera technology, announces the availability of the world’s first 40-megapixel day/night panoramic camera providing a 180° field of view. The new all-in-one AV40185DN SurroundVideo® camera is a cost-effective solution for applications where mechanical pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) devices might otherwise have to be used or where multiple cameras would be needed to view expansive coverage areas. The higher-resolution panoramic view camera can be used to replace many conventional cameras.

The newest SurroundVideo® camera represents Arecont Vision’s fourth generation of panoramic megapixel cameras. Arecont Vision first introduced multi-sensor SurroundVideo® panoramic megapixel cameras in
2006, and continues to lead the industry in megapixel solutions including multi-sensor panoramic cameras. The SurroundVideo® 12-Megapixel WDR 180° Panoramic Camera began shipping earlier this year. A new 360° 40-megapixel camera will be available before the end of the year.

“Arecont Vision is without peer in multi-sensor, multi-megapixel technology and the 40-megapixel SurroundVideo® sets yet another benchmark for the industry,” said Raul Calderon, Senior Vice President, Arecont Vision. “Arecont Vision panoramic cameras enable users to view and record extremely wide fields of view while simultaneously digitally zooming in to multiple regions of interest, something a PTZ cannot do. At 40-megapixels of resolution, our value proposition of seeing more with fewer cameras further revolutionizes the return on investment of a video surveillance system.”

The market’s first 40-megapixel panoramic camera provides a 180-degree panoramic view using four
high-sensitivity 10-megapixel sensors, each offering a 3,648 x 2,752 pixel view at 7fps, for a total image area of 14,592 x 2,752 pixels at 1.5fps. The AV40185DN camera uses dual H.264 and MJPEG encoders for great flexibility depending on compression preferences. The panoramic camera also can be binned to 2.5-megapixels per sensor, increasing light sensitivity and frame rate.

Both the 180-degree and 360-degree SurroundVideo® 40-megapixel cameras offer standard hard in-ceiling mount or surface-mount configurations out of the box, plus wall and pendant mount using optional accessories. The units are available with an optional integrated heater and blower. The IP66-rated environmental chassis and polycarbonate dome are vandal-resistant and eliminate the need for external housing. An easily adjustable 2-axis gimbal provides 360-degree pan and 90-degree tilt adjustment.

On-camera privacy mask enables video to be blocked in multiple regions in any desired shape. Extended motion detection provides a higher-granularity grid of 1,024 distinct motion detection zones per channel.

ABOUT ARECONT VISION

Arecont Vision is the leading manufacturer of high-performance megapixel IP cameras. Arecont Vision
products are made in the USA and feature low-cost massively parallel image processing architectures MegaVideo® and SurroundVideo® that represent a drastic departure from traditional analog and network camera designs. True Wide Dynamic Range (WDR) and remote focus/remote zoom enhance camera utility. Compact JPEG and H.264 series of cameras address cost
sensitive applications. These innovative technologies enable Arecont Vision to deliver multi-megapixel digital video at IP VGA camera price points.

ELAN g! GIVES APPLE-ENTHUSIAST TOTAL CONTROL OVER HIS 18,000-SQUARE FOOT HOME

Digital Home Lifestyles equipped the new home with an ELAN g! system that can be easily controlled with an iPhone or iPad.

DENVER, COLORADO – July 22, 2013 – The Musil family members love using an iPad or iPhone for scheduling, playing games and staying connected to one another. So when homeowner John Musil decided he wanted simple consolidated control of the security, lighting and A/V components in his 18,000-square foot home in the Arcadia-area of Phoenix, Arizona, he had to be able to do it all from his favorite Apple devices. Now that the home has an ELAN g! Entertainment and Control System, the Musil family can easily control every major subsystem of their home with the push of a button!

Musil first hired Scottsdale-based builder Sage Luxury Homes to build his dream home that features a media room, game room, fitness area, basketball court and a guesthouse. Musil then brought Phoenix-based integrator Digital Home Lifestyles on board to install a control system that would offer complete control over every area of the home.

“When the homeowner told me that his top priority was to have total control over his home through his iPhone and iPad, I instantly thought of the ELAN g! system,” said Jeff Beall, President & CEO of Digital Home Lifestyles. “Not only is the ELAN g! system one of the most affordable control solutions on the market today, but its also one of the most capable, integrating with an endless number of third-party components and having the ability to scale to any size installation. Just as a robust wireless networking infrastructure is crucial to any new home, an easy-to-use control system like ELAN g! becomes the central nervous system that makes all the home’s technology accessible to every person who might need to use it.”

Digital Home Lifestyles equipped the home with an ELAN g! system that gives the Musil family control over lighting, surveillance, security, irrigation systems, audio, video and more. The g! system can be accessed through a variety of different interfaces including the homeowner’s iPhones and iPads, three ELAN TS10 touch screens and a whopping 25 ELAN Z100 keypads for AV functions. The installation included 10 Samsung LED LCD TVs throughout the house, three Apple TV® systems, five Apple iPod docks and two Samsung Blu-Ray Players.

Digital Home Lifestyles also installed a total of 10 Speco Technologies cameras for surveillance, and the Musil family is now able to enjoy 24 zones of high quality audio through eight Niles loudspeakers, six Monitor Audio outdoor speakers and a Source Technologies LCR flat panel speaker. The g! system controls the functions of all the major rooms in the house, including the guesthouse where visitors can use g! interfaces to control the lighting, audio and video without any instructions necessary.

“What initially made the ELAN g! system so attractive was the idea that I could easily keep an eye on the house while I’m at the office or on vacation,” said Musil. “Digital Home Lifestyles installed a number of surveillance cameras both inside and outside the house, including one on the entry gate, so it’s very simple for me to check in on the house whenever I’m away for an extended period of time. What makes the system so incredible is that the entire family is able to use the g! system without training. We’re thrilled that such an easy-to-use system can perform so many different functions throughout our house.”

Most of the technology that makes all this possible is located in a professional rack unit located in a storage closet on the lower level, which effectively hides all the unsightly black boxes typical of a home entertainment system. The rack includes an ELAN HC12 controller, three ELAN S128P AV Controller/Amplifiers, an ELAN S1616A Multi-zone Amplifier, an ELAN S86P Multi-Room A/V controller, an IC Realtime 16-Channel Security Camera DVR, a Rotel amplifier and Krell amplifier, networking components from Motorola, Netgear and Pakedge, and a networked Sony Blu-Ray player.

BRYAN CRANSTON CHOOSES ELAN g! TO CONTROL BRAND NEW LEED PLATINUM HOME

Nationally syndicated TV series “Real Green” to feature the planning, design and building of Cranston’s net-zero energy beachfront California home in Fall 2013.

PETALUMA, CALIFORNIA – At a young age, Emmy® award-winning actor Bryan Cranston learned the value of recycling and prolonging the life of things he owns. Today, he has taken his eco-conscious lifestyle one step further by building a new LEED® Platinum certified beachfront home near Los Angeles, California. The home, which Cranston dubbed 3Palms, uses solar panels, radiant heat, low-energy appliances, LED lighting and natural ventilation to cut energy usage, and everything from the lights to the motorized window shutters can be controlled from anywhere in the world through the simple-to-use ELAN® g! Entertainment and Control System!

“My grandparents and parents taught me about recycling when I was a boy,” Cranston reminisced. “It was just part of their lives — composting, recycling, repurposing and using things until they were of no use, not succumbing to the temptation of buying something new simply because it’s new. I’ve been of that mindset for 50 years, so when I started thinking about creating a new home on the beach, I decided I wanted to do a net-zero energy house and get LEED Platinum certification.”

After finding a suitable beachfront plot that housed a very unsuitable, inefficient 1940s home, Cranston began designing the new 3 bedroom, 3.5 bathroom home using every energy-conscious element possible. Considerations include motorized window shutters for protection from the elements, solar panels for electricity, solar thermal units for hot water, house-wide LED lighting, high-performance insulation, wood from FSC certified sustainable forests, and the ELAN g! Entertainment and Control system to make everything easy to use, manage and monitor, including schedules for lighting, heating and security, plus worldwide access to check on the home.

“I’ve already used the ELAN system remotely with the mobile app to check on the security cameras,” Cranston said. “I was rushing out the door, and as I was driving away I had a moment of doubt where I thought ‘Did I close the garage doors?’, so I went on the system and checked the cameras. One of them lets me see the garage, and sure enough it was open! So I went into the system, pushed close, and that was that. It’s worth its weight in gold right there.”

In addition to the security cameras, garage doors and window shutters, the ELAN g! system allows Cranston to use his iPhone or iPad to control his whole-home music system and every light both indoors and outdoors. With pre-set schedules for heating, lighting and security, he never has to wonder whether his home is running at optimum efficiency. The g! system also has a history feature where he can view the past usage of each system and then easily make any adjustments he wants.

Cranston can even see which lights or speakers are on in each room, then turn them off one at a time or all at once. Justin Brees of custom electronics installation company AM House programmed a super convenient ‘Home/Away” button that sets the home up for when he leaves or returns. It’s specially programmed to shut down the house when no one is home, with actions such as turning off all the lights and speakers, arming the security system and closing the shutters. For additional “Away” mode security, some lights go on at random intervals at night to simulate that someone is home.

To show the public that eco-living can still be comfortable and stylish, Cranston is leveraging his celebrity status to share his new green home with television viewers all across the U.S. in a syndicated weekend series called “Real Green”.  The series will air in late 2013 and will be broadcast on more than 100 local affiliates and cable networks. It will cover the entire project from conception to move-in and include segments with all of the experienced professionals that helped make his dream home a reality, including the builder Bryan Henson, project designer John Turturro, and custom electronics installer Justin Brees.
