New Addition to International School for Holocaust Studies Provides Enhanced Learning Environment for Global Visitors

As the Jewish people’s living memorial to the Holocaust, Yad VaShem safeguards the memory of the past and imparts its meaning for future generations. The new wing adds 45,000 square feet of space to the International School, and provides state-of-the-art facilities to meet the ever-expanding demand for educational seminars for teachers and opinion-shapers from Israel and around the globe. A generous donation by Crestron helped leading AV systems integrator in Israel, Barkai Benny Brookstein Ltd. install DigitalMedia™ to meet the technology demands of the historic facility.

Since the establishment of the International School for Holocaust Studies in 1993 and the redevelopment of the entire campus, Yad VaShem has become a world center for teaching about the Holocaust. Over the past few years, the number of seminars for educators has doubled and the facility required an expansion. The close relationship between Yad VaShem, Crestron and Barkai started nearly eight years ago upon completion of the AV installation in the new Holocaust History Museum. The addition of the International Seminars Wing provided the opportunity for Crestron and Barkai to once again work with Yad VaShem to install a solution that would manage and distribute HD content, while also providing the infrastructure capable of growing as the technology evolves.

“It is extremely important to continue educating individuals about the Holocaust through the documentation, research, education and commemoration preserved by Yad VaShem,” says Crestron CEO, George Feldstein. “Our technology provides the necessary tools to greatly enrich the quality of the events and seminars run by Yad VaShem for thousands of participants.”

The new International Seminars Wing features Crestron education solutions that turn the average classroom into a high-tech environment, featuring Crestron DigitalMedia in 10 classrooms, the video conferencing room and 330-seat lecture hall. To enhance the learning experience in the video conferencing room, Crestron’s new DMPS-300-C high-definition presentation solution delivers a complete high-definition presentation control and signal routing solution that integrates a control processor, multimedia matrix switcher, mic mixer, audio DSP and amplifier with DigitalMedia 8G+™ technology.

Capture-HD™ provides a very simple solution for capturing lectures, presentations, seminars, and training sessions in high-definition 1080p in the lecture hall. Capture-HD will mainly be used for recording and storing the contents of lectures and seminars locally, and after editing the content files will be added to the web-based Yad VaShem library. Crestron motion and presence detectors help Yad VaShem reduce energy costs and enhance the functionality of environmental systems. Crestron touch screens adorn the various rooms, allowing one-touch control of the AV and environment systems throughout the facility.
